World’s largest museum of Pysanka (wax decorated Easter eggs) is located in Frankivsk region. It houses over 10,000 pysanky from various regions of Ukraine and 35 countries worldwide, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, the United States, Canada, France, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India. Among its treasures is the oldest known pysanka, a decorated duck egg from the early 16th century, discovered in Lviv. This artifact highlights the deep-rooted tradition of egg decoration in Ukrainian culture. The museum features eggs decorated by Ukrainian presidents and first ladies. In 2024, UNESCO recognized the tradition of pysanka decorating as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, underscoring its importance in Ukrainian identity and cultural expression.
